The Lambeth Talk
Robin Rolls, director of youth ministry for the Diocese of Leicester, gives his verdict on The Lambeth Talk. The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, hosted a delegation of archbishops and bishops in Leicester ahead of the Lambeth Conference to hear the hopes and aspirations of 40 young people drawn from across the worldwide Anglican Communion.
Robin Rolls
THE Lambeth Talk was an incredible experience.
It was amazing for me to be involved in the planning and delivery of an event of such international significance. What struck me was the way that the young people themselves gradually gained confidence and ability to take over and grow the event further.
I have been a youth worker for about 20 years so such things should never surprise me, but they always do!
I will never forget the sight of 25 Anglicans from East and West Malaysia jumping joyfully in the air as one at the end of the Lambeth Talk. Their Diocesan Bishop was probably jumping higher than any of them.
The day was packed with energy and excitement, enthusiasm, passion and commitment to make a positive change to the Anglican Communion that many of us love so dearly. As always the Archbishop of York brought his own particular drive and enthusiasm to our day. He was happy to engage in some cheerful bullying of me – but I am used to it!
For us in the Diocese of Leicester the Lambeth Conference has been one good news story after another.
