Easter Day Reflection on Good Morning Sunday
Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu.Sunday 24th April 2011
The Archbishop of York provides an Easter Day Reflection on BBC Radio 2 Good Morning Sunday programme with Aled Jones. This follows...On Good Friday, Jesus' twelve disciples had all their hopes buried when their leader was crucified.
Judas killed himself and the other eleven hid behind closed doors, frozen by fear and disappointment.
But the women in the Gospel story had a kind of determined desperate stubbornness about them, which made them set off, as soon as they could, at dawn to anoint a body, already fully anointed with myrrh and aloes by Nicodemus.
The Risen Christ appears to Mary Magdalene, calls her by name and gives her a message of continued, unbroken affection.
"Go and tell my brothers and Peter."
Mary Magdalene, moves from the deepest fear to hope, amazement and wonder.
From sorrow to joy; from despair to confident trust and venturesome faith.
Alleluia! Christ is Risen!
