Archbishop Sentamu visits St Margaret's Church Middlesbrough

Ann Southeran's window for St Margaret's Brookfield

Monday 16th May 2011

The Archbishop of York will be visiting St Margaret's Church, Brookfield, Middlesbrough on Saturday 21st May. He will be leading a special service at 2pm to mark the 50th anniversary of the Church’s dedication.

Church warden at St Margaret’s, Kathleen Edmond said, “We’re delighted that the Archbishop will be coming to mark the 50th anniversary of the Church’s dedication.  His visit will be the culmination of a year of celebrations – we’ve had a new window installed by stained glass artist Ann Sotheran. The window shows the life of St. Margaret, Queen of Scotland, the patron saint of the church, and the money to make it was left by a member of the congregation in her will.

“St Margaret's Church was originally dedicated by Dr Michael Ramsey in 1961 – it was his last dedication of a church before he was appointed Archbishop of Canterbury.  We’re thrilled that Archbishop Sentamu will be coming to mark the 50th anniversary of that dedication.”
