Singing in Bishopthorpe Chapel Thursday 14th July 2011
The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, is to host a music event to be held at Bishopthorpe Palace on Monday 18 July 2011. Around 150 Year 6 pupils from City of York Church of England primary schools will be attending, accompanied by their teachers. The Music Festival will be an opportunity for the children to make new friends before moving to secondary schools in September and they will be encouraged to express their own talents through dance, drums and song in a musical celebration. There will be five workshops focused on the theme of “Change” and at 2.15pm there will be a gospel medley performed on the lawn to showcase their activities from the day.
The Archbishop said: “I am hoping that the children will have fun and learn something new. Everyone will have chance to meet a new friend in advance of the transition to secondary school – it’s a big change!
“We want to encourage the children to be confident in themselves and to recognise that they all have wonderful talents”
“We’ve had an amazing response from all the schools and we are looking forward to welcoming the children, teachers and all helpers on the day”.
