The New Bishop of Doncaster, Peter Burrows, is to be ordained bishop at a special service in York Minster next month (2 February 11am) by the Archbishop of York.

It was announced in October that Archdeacon Peter Burrows would be leaving his role as Archdeacon of Leeds in the Diocese of Ripon and Leeds to take up the new position as Bishop of Doncaster.

The new bishop will have a diocesan wide episcopal ministry. Bishop Burrows will be the sponsoring bishop for ordination in the Diocese as well as taking the lead on education.

He began his ministry in West Yorkshire and returned to it as archdeacon. This will be his first experience of working in the south and east of the County where he will bring a wide experience of ministry, vocations, training and education.

He has been a member of the General Synod of the Church of England representing the House of Clergy in both the Leicester and Ripon & Leeds’ dioceses and is a Bishop’s Adviser for Selection & Training. This has involved him spending time assisting people to discern whether or not they have a vocation to ordained ministry in the Church of England.

Following his consecration a welcome and installation of the Bishop will take place in Sheffield Cathedral on Sunday 5 February (4pm) and a civic service of welcome for the Bishop will be held in Doncaster Minster on Saturday 11 February (11am).
