Archbishop's Lent Reflection

Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu.

Wednesday 22nd February 2012

The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, says a few words of reflection at the beginning of Lent.

The Archbishop's reflection follows:

"Lent is a time to follow our Lord’s testing in the wilderness – 40 days and 40 nights. He overcame temptation by being true to who He was, what God had revealed in Holy Scriptures, through prayer and fasting.

"In Lent we follow in his footsteps, asking the Holy Spirit to help us live close to God by focussing our life on God, prayer, fasting, deeds of charity – and giving thanks for life.

"In this way we put a zest in our life."

The Archbishop is eating a vegetarian diet during Lent - and has also given up dairy products and alcohol.
