Archbishop celebrates St George’s Day
Bishopthorpe Chapel Singing Songs for St GeorgeMonday 23rd April 2012
School children from Archbishop of York Junior School joined the Archbishop to celebrate St George's Day at Bishopthorpe this afternoon. The Archbishop said: “We should be proud of our country and not be afraid to show it! We should be rejoicing in the wonderful country we live in. One of the great traditions of this country is our hospitality and we should invite others to join us today in celebrating the feast of St George. Wouldn’t it be great if the whole country could be given a day of holiday to celebrate England’s fantastic patron saint?”
Local school children joined the Archbishop for gingerbread biscuits and also to sing ‘When a knight won his spurs’ and the National Anthem at Bishopthorpe Chapel. In previous years the school children have also played kwik-cricket on the lawn of Bishopthorpe Palace.
