Archbishop Blesses Yorkshire Regiment Homecoming Parade
Service of Thanksgiving at York MinsterFriday 13th July 2012
The Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu is to welcome and give a blessing at a service of Thanksgiving for the Yorkshire Regiment held at York Minster today.Soldiers from the Yorkshire Regiment have marked their homecoming from operations in Afghanistan with a series of parades this week 10-14 July 2012 in Harrogate, Beverley, Bridlington, Bradford, Leeds, York and Hull.
The majority of the soldiers have family in Yorkshire and have recently returned to their base in Germany after a six-month operational tour in Afghanistan.
The 120 soldiers will march through the streets of the Yorkshire towns to the music of the Band of the King’s Division.
The York parade – 11.45 am on Friday 13 July
The soldiers will attend a Thanksgiving service in York Minster at 10.30 am. Following this they will march down Blake Street, Davygate, Parliament Street, High Ousegate, Spurriergate, Coney Street past the Mansion House , St Helen’s Square, Blake Street and Duncombe Place. The salute will be taken at the Mansion House.
