Archbishop Young Leaders Award ‘Taster Day’ Invitation

Archbishop Addressing Manor Church of England Academy York

Tuesday 4th September 2012

The Archbishop of York has invited Headteachers of North of England schools to Manor Church of England Academy, York on Thursday 4 October to hear more about his Youth Trust’s Young Leaders Award.

The Young Leaders Award, which runs at Keystage 3 or Keystage 4/5 has made significant progress in the last few months and has so far been taken up by 40 schools, covering an area between Newcastle and Nottingham.  The Young Leaders Award started at Manor Church of England Academy, York in September 2011.

The Archbishop said: “All of my Young Leaders do a personal challenge as part of the award, and some of these make huge differences in the lives of other less fortunate than themselves.   A school pupil told me that recently he found out that his neighbour was becoming increasingly ill as a result of his Down’s Syndrome illness. Knowing that he used to love gardening when he was well, the Young Leader did what many young people would do…and took over! He started renovating his neighbour’s garden. Like the heroes he learnt about whilst doing the Award, he demonstrated his love for others by doing something amazing. It is an inspiration for us all”

Robin Rolls, Director of the Youth Trust said: “Amongst other positive feedback that we are receiving, schools who are involved in the Award are telling us that their Citizenship targets are being met through the Award, and are particularly impressed with how it helps develop the Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural dimension of the school curriculum”.
