Discipleship in the North of England

The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu.

Monday 13th August 2012

Are you aged between 18-30 and passionate about making disciples, and seeing the church grow, in the north of England? Then you may be glad to know about a gathering with the Archbishop of York at Cranmer Hall, Durham, next month.

The Archbishop is inviting 120 young adults from across the north of England to Cranmer Hall for a residential conference on the 19th-20th September. It is hoped that all present will be encouraged and equipped by worshipping and praying together, sharing vision, skills, imagination, and energy - and by having the opportunity to hear some key speakers and take part in relevant and engaging seminars.

Archbishop Sentamu will speak at the event on the subject of:  ‘Is the Church really up for this?' There will also be contributions from Gavin Calver (National Director YFC) and Bishop Justin Welby (Bishop of Durham).

Conference hosts will be Mary Jane Axelson (UCCF) and Mike North (Diocese of Sheffield), and there will be a range of seminars on apologetics (Mary Jane Axelson) , incarnational mission (Mark Tanner), youth evangelism (Dani Knox) , entrepreneurial mission (Michael Volland), leading people to Christ (Ian Henderson), and discipling new Christians (Ruth Perrin).

On the Wednesday evening it is hoped that a café style event will provoke a lively exchange of creative ideas, searching questions, vision, and energy. The organisers pray that the Holy Spirit will use the event to direct those attending and equip them to share Christ wherever they are across the north of England.

Attendance, accommodation, and food at the conference is free to those invited – though delegates will have to pay their fare to get to Durham. If you would like to be invited please email Malcolm Macnaughton at There are about 30 spaces left, so please get back to us soon!
