Next Bishop of Manchester to be formally confirmed at York Minster

Registrars, Dean of Manchester, Bishops of Middleton, Bolton and Manchester

Friday 4th October 2013

On 7th October 2013, during a special service in York Minster led by The Archbishop of York, the Rt Revd David Walker will complete the second stage of the process to make him the Bishop of Manchester, called confirmation of election.

Once the Prime Minister makes the name of a new bishop public there are then four steps to that person becoming the Bishop of Manchester: his election by the Canons of Manchester Cathedral-which took place in July, a Confirmation of Election at York Minister-this October and a meeting with Her Majesty the Queen where he takes an oath acknowledging her as Sovereign and Supreme Governor (called homage) – due to take place in November.  The final step is his arrival at Manchester Cathedral on 30th November for the service of the Inauguration of his ministry as Bishop of Manchester.

Please remember Bishop David and his family in your prayers.

The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu is very glad to welcome Bishop David Walker to the Province of York and to his much loved Manchester.
