Official RE:quest launch with Dr John Sentamu, Archbishop of York

RE:quest online resources

Friday 12th September 2014

On Wednesday 1st October, Westminster Chapel is to host the official launch of the new RE:quest online resources which explore the Christian Faith, produced by Youth for Christ. Request.org.uk is free and has been designed to support outstanding teaching of RE and independent, enquiry-led learning by students exploring the big questions.

The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, who is to deliver a key note address to attendees at the official launch of RE:quest at Westminster Chapel, said: “In looking outwards and asking questions of God and the Universe, we find that we actually discover more about ourselves and our own place in the world around us”.

RE:quest was first pioneered in 2000 and has recently been redesigned to cater for a generation of students who spend an increasing amount of time in a virtual world. It includes over 250 short films, a bank of interactive tours of churches and engaging online games and quizzes to help students explore what it means to be a Christian in Britain today and begin to ask big questions about life, identity and purpose for themselves.

RE:quest has developed lesson plans that incorporate app technology to provide a stimulating 21st Century approach to learning. In one such lesson, images depicting the nativity story can be downloaded and placed at stations around a classroom. Students can use their phones or iPads to scan each picture, which will lead them to watch contemporary retellings of key aspects of the Christmas story, featured on the site.

The resources at Request.org.uk cater for students of all ages and abilities, from first enquiry into the nature of faith at infant age, to exploring ethics and morality at GCSE and Standard level.  In September 2014, RE:start was added – this new sister online resource uses puppets, image banks and storyboards to help teach children aged 4-7 about the basics of the Christian faith.
