Applefields School Welcomes Archbishop of York

The Archbishop of York is to visit Applefields School on Tuesday 3 March at 9.30am following an invitation letter he received from a student at the school.

The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu said: “Education must never be reduced to schooling and the sole pursuit of exam results.  Education at its best is about enabling everyone to flourish as precious children of God”. 

Applefields is a special school for secondary aged students with a wide of learning difficulties who live in York and the surrounding areas of North Yorkshire and the East Riding.

The Archbishop is to speak at the morning assembly about the importance of Fairtrade as his visit takes place during Fairtrade Fortnight 2015 (23 February - 8 March).  Later, after having a chat with the school’s Fairtrade Committee about their work and plans for the forthcoming year, the Archbishop is to visit all classes accompanied by the Head teacher.

George Gilmore, Head teacher said: “It is fantastic that the Archbishop is taking the time to visit the staff and the students.  Our Fairtrade Committee will be showing the Archbishop the work we have been doing on the importance of Fairtrade. We are very proud of all of our students at Applefields and the progress they are making.”

9.30am                     Arrival & Morning Assembly

10.15-10.45am        Refreshments and meeting with the Fairtrade Committee

11 am - 12 Noon      Tour of classes
