Archbishop Holgate’s Christmas Service at York Minster

Friday 11th December 2015

The service will be in the nave of York Minster on Tuesday 15 December 2015 at 7.30pm. Doors open at 7.00pm, please be seated by 7.20pm.

Every year Archbishop Holgate’s, a Church of England Academy, organises a Christmas service in York Minster. This is open to members of the public as well as those connected with the school.

The carol service is one of the largest in the region, with over 1200 people enjoying the music, drama, dance, video, bible readings and preaching. It offers an opportunity to retell the Christmas story in a way which is both clear and engaging as well as innovative. It includes original sketches which follow Joseph’s story, six different choirs and a rendition of Away in a Manger in German, which has already been sent by video to Archbishop Holgate’s partner school in Leipzig.

Richard Nihill, Lay Chaplain and member of Senior Leadership Team at Archbishop Holgate’s Church of England Academy said: "We would love to welcome all  to share in our retelling of the Christmas story.  We are hoping to welcome people from communities and church congregations across the City of York and beyond.  This is an ideal service to invite a work colleague, friend or family member to who may not go to church this Christmas. Rev John Lee, who is Chaplain to the Lord Mayor, will be leading our service. The civic party will be joining us at the service as well. We hope that you too can be there and stay afterwards for mulled wine and mince pies."
