Acts 435 Easter Appeal for 40 Fresh Starts

Monday 21st March 2016

Starting from today, the Archbishop of York’s online giving charity, Acts 435, has set out to match 40 online requests offering a fresh start in time for Easter Sunday.

Acts 435 works through local churches and charities who are helping people in poverty to move forwards with their lives. Acts 435 has been able to provide rent deposits for people trying to get off the streets, household goods for women fleeing domestic violence and setting up afresh, and many debt relief order fees to release people from the crippling burden of debt.

Executive Director Jenny Herrera said:  “A couple of years ago our local paper, The Press, ran an Easter appeal which was really successful, with local people meeting the 20 specified requests over the Easter weekend.  This Easter we would love to see a surge of support on a wider scale for those most in need of a new start. Many people have carried a burden sometimes for many years, so we’d like this Easter to make a difference”.

The Archbishop of York, currently on a Pilgrimage of Prayer, Witness and Blessing across the Diocese of York, said: “Just last week, I visited the Open Doors Project in Hull where Acts 435 is already at work. Open Doors is an amazing place – this project helps people in need of food, clothing, medical help and housing.  Join me in supporting Acts 435 Easter appeal for each person is a stand-in for Christ!”

To get involved, please consider supporting the requests in our Easter Appeal and help spread the word by using the hashtag #freshstart on Twitter.
