Archbishop Sentamu Academy Graduations 2016

Tuesday 5th July 2016

The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu today welcomed students from Archbishop Sentamu Academy Sixth Form for an Awards Ceremony held at Bishopthorpe Palace.

31 students graduated with a range of A Levels and BTEC Level 3 qualifications.  The class of 2016 are going on to further and higher education and to apprenticeships.  Degree studies to be pursued include Anthropology, Computer Science, Film Studies and Midwifery.

Graduating student Jordan said:  “My success in the Sixth Form has enabled me to pursue a career in Sport Rehabilitation, which is my chosen University course.”

Graduating student Shauna said: “I am looking forward to studying English Language and Literature at Hull University. I am very proud to be graduating today.”

As part of the Awards Ceremony, the Archbishop formally addressed the students, teachers and parents. He also jointly presented certificates and awards to the students with the Executive Principal, Andrew Chubb and Assistant Vice Principal responsible for the Sixth Form, Kristina Hill.

Quote from Kristina Hill: “Today’s celebration epitomises what the Sixth Form offers: a range of courses, a community of learning. The 2016 Graduates are the ambassadors for East Hull. It is a joy to know the students who have achieved so much and to appreciate how hard they have worked.”

Archbishop Sentamu said:  “My message to these Graduates is to be encouraged and to be bold.  You have already achieved great things – go out there and achieve more!  Ralph Waldo Emerson said, ‘Don’t go where the path may lead; go where there is no path and leave a trail.’  Congratulations to all at Archbishop Sentamu Academy – it is great to see confident young people as they begin to set out on this next phase of their journey. I pray that they will know God is with them every step of the way”
