Archbishop’s Youth Trust ‘On the Road’ for Headteachers’ Conference

Monday 17th October 2016

The Archbishop of York Youth Trust this week will hold another regional Headteachers’ conference, travelling to the Wilson Carlile Centre in Sheffield on 20 October.

The aim of the conference is for primary school Headteachers in Sheffield and the surrounding area to find out more about the Young Leaders Award and to consider implementing it in their schools.

Joining members of the Youth Trust team will be Huw Thomas, Director of Education at Sheffield Diocese and Mark Russell, the Chief Executive of the Church Army, who will deliver the keynote speech.

Mrs Maggi Brinkley, a Higher Level Teaching Assistant from The Ellis Church of England Primary School in Barnsley is also attending the conference with six pupils from the school. They are coming to share about their experience of the Young Leaders Award, and some of the things they achieved by taking part in it.

Kate Denney, strategic lead for Primary Awards said, “I am looking forward to telling others about the good things that can be achieved when schools take on board the Young Leaders’ Award.  It is wonderful to have pupils from Barnsley coming to share their own experiences – it really helps to bring the Award alive.”

The Archbishop of York said, “I find it encouraging that word of the Young Leaders’ Awards is spreading.  It is wonderful when more and more schools try the Award for themselves and see the difference that it makes to pupils and communities alike.”

The Young Leaders Awards, which run at Key Stages 2, 3 and 4, are an active citizenship resource for schools and there are over 44,000 young people now taking part across the north of England.  The aim of the Awards is to encourage leadership in young people which will continue throughout their adult life.
