Archbishop of York appoints Adviser for Mission & Church Revitalisation

Friday 14th October 2016

The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu is pleased to announce the appointment of the Venerable John Day as Assistant Chaplain and Adviser in Mission Strategy & Church Revitalisation. John is also a House for Duty priest in charge at St Chad’s Church, York.

A former Archdeacon for Mission for Christchurch Diocese in New Zealand, John Day joined the Archbishop’s staff in the first week of September just in time for the Northern Bishops Crossroads Mission in the Diocese of Blackburn.

Born in Scarborough North Yorkshire, John Day brings plenty of experience with 30 years of ordained ministry. He has worked in inner city Bradford, Leeds, Christchurch and most recently as Mission Consultant in the Diocese of Liverpool.

John will be working closely with the Bishopthorpe and Diocesan staff teams, Bishops and Missioners across the Northern Province.

The Venerable John Day said: “I am really looking forward to supporting the Archbishop in his ministry in the Diocese of York and in the Northern Province. It has been encouraging to learn about all that’s going on in the north and I am excited to engage with this work as it progresses in parishes, in deaneries and dioceses. This is a fantastic opportunity to reach out to others, to help parishes see how they can serve their communities and to grow in the power of the Holy Spirit”.
