Archbishop of York visits St Peter’s
Thursday 19th January 2017The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, today visited St Peter’s School, St Olave’s School to award its Young Leaders and Clifton School and Nursery.
The day began at Clifton, where the children showed the Archbishop around, sharing with him their latest artwork and stories.
At St Olave’s, the Archbishop presented this year’s group of pupils with the Archbishop’s Young Leaders Award, which recognises the work the children do to make a difference in their community.
The Archbishop was then taken on a tour of St Peter’s School, concluding with an informal tea and conversation with students. Archbishop Sentamu then led a confirmation service at Chapel in the evening.
Archbishop Sentamu said: “It is always a joy when people take the decision to confirm their faith in Jesus Christ. The young people today have decided to publicly say they will follow Jesus Christ in their journey through life. I made this decision when I was ten years old and it is the best decision I ever made!”
Daniel Jones, Chaplain at St Peter’s, said: “We were thrilled to have the Archbishop with us today – all the pupils very much enjoyed talking to him, and those who received their Young Leaders Award were honoured to be recognised by the Archbishop. On behalf of everyone at St Peter’s, I would like to thank the Archbishop for a wonderful day.”
