Health Through Peace Conference coming to York

Friday 18th August 2017

An international delegation of academics, health professionals, peace workers and students will convene in York in September for the Medact/IPPNW Health Through Peace 2017 conference.

On 4th-6th September, the public health charity Medact and the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW) are convening a major conference: Health Through Peace 2017.

It will be held at the University of York. Partner organisations include Médecins Sans Frontières, the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament and various local groups including Frack Free York.

The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, one of the plenary session speakers at this conference, said: “God comes to us in Jesus that we might find peace with God and with one another. It is only through this radical reconciliation that the world will find peace. I look forward to exploring together about how we might make this vision a reality”.

This major event will bring together organisations from across the world to address the public health crises at the heart of global challenges like war, violence, xenophobia, the refugee crisis and climate change.

In challenging times of political unrest and worsening climate change, Medact believes the health community has a duty to act on global crises in order to protect public health.

Medact is a charity and non-profit organisation formed of health professionals advocating for peace and security, the environment, human rights and economic justice.
