Diocesan visits

Throughout the year, the Archbishop undertakes several Diocesan visits.

The Church of England comprises two Provinces, Canterbury and York. Each province is broken down into dioceses. There are 41 in England (42 including the Diocese in Europe). Each of the English dioceses has a structure of boards and councils responsible for different aspects of the Church's work, e.g. Ministry, Mission, Education, Social Responsibility.

The role of the Archbishop of York is varied. He is Primate of England and Archbishop of the Province of York.  In addition, the Archbishop leads the Dioceses in the northern province of the Church of England. These are NewcastleCarlisleSodor and ManDurham, Leeds (West Yorkshire & the Dales), Blackburn, York, ManchesterLiverpoolSheffieldChester and Southwell & Nottingham.

He is responsible for the care and encouragement of the clergy and people of the Diocese of York, geographically the largest Church of England Diocese with 470 parishes.
