Egypt Diocesan Association

Archbishops Advent AppealAbout the Egypt Diocesan Association (EDA)

EDA primarily encourages its members to participate in the work of the diocese (specifically in Egypt, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Libya, Algeria, Tunisia, Djibouti and Somalia) by prayer, by promoting interest in the work being carried out by the Bishop, area bishops and clergy teams and by subscribing annually to the association to provide grants for projects identified by the Bishop.

As a UK based charity, EDA can also accept and distribute donations (Gift Aided where appropriate) for special appeals or in support of projects within the diocese from individuals and organizations.

We also provide a regular information service by email with the latest news from the diocese for members who are online.

The Missionary Beginnings

In the early part of the 20th Century, two CMS missionaries Canon Temple Gairdner and Rev Douglas Thornton laid the foundation for the Anglican Church in Egypt. In 1955, the Egypt sub-committee of the Egypt and Sudan Church Association (based in London) became a separate association, known as the Egypt Church Association, becoming the Egypt Diocesan Association (EDA) in 1976.  Still a small UK based charity, EDA has adapted over the years to provide the right support for the diocese and provides a vital link with those who leave the area but still wish to serve the diocese.

How to become a Member of EDA?

You can subscribe to the EDA (the suggested minimum contribution for membership is £20).  All surplus funds and donations go to support the work in the diocese

Members who are online receive email reports several times a month from various parts of the diocese depending on news and events. Members not online receive postal mailings at least twice a year with information from the diocese which includes the annual report and newsletters.

Members are invited to share fellowship at our annual meeting held in London usually in June of each year. Wherever possible, the speaker will be the Bishop, The Most Reverend Dr Mouneer Anis or one of the assistant bishops from the diocese.
