Transforming vulnerable children's lives through pastoral care and a safe nurturing environment...

The Royal National Children's Foundation (RNCF) is supporting 380 of the UK’s most vulnerable and disadvantaged children by funding their long-term places at state and independent boarding schools.

Typically a child needing our help is aged between 7 and 13 and is highly vulnerable because they are suffering from trauma and neglect due to serious mental or physical parental illness, family bereavement or parental alcohol/drug abuse.  We only support children who live in the UK in households that cannot meet the cost of boarding school unaided.  Our support is for social need and the well-being of each child, not for educational preference.

RNCF offers a proven alternative to foster care and full Local Authority care, at a fraction of the cost.  We give each child a life changing opportunity when they most need it through pastoral care and individual attention in the safe and structured environment of a boarding school.

We pay for holiday experiences and trauma counselling when appropriate and closely monitor each child’s progress through school.

When we take on a child, we commit to support them until they complete their secondary education, in some cases up to 11 years.

Sadly, RNCF helplines have never been busier from families in crisis and we have a bold ambition to help support 500 children per year by 2017 with additional funding.
