The Church Youth Summit

Archbishop drumming The Church Youth Summit

In March 2011 the Archbishop attended a national Youth Summit with the Archbishop of Canterbury in Sheffield.

More than 100 young people aged between 15 and 21 years old, 25 bishops and 30 youth leaders discussed how the church can better equip, resource and reach young people in the UK – and how to ensure future generation are a priority for the Church of England.

Dr John Sentamu told a 2006 conference on youth work in the Church: "Ninety-nine per cent of people who wear hoodies are law-abiding citizens. In a rapidly changing culture, many are bewildered about how to communicate with young people".

TwitterWith the growth of new communications media – such as blogs, chatrooms, YouTube, MySpace, Facebook and Twitter – the Archbishop has continued to adapt how he communicates his message.

The Archbishop believes that as Christians we need to provide a place of belonging and identity for young people in churches - and is known to support fresh expressions of church.
