York Minster is the seat of the Archbishop of York and the cathedral church of the Diocese and Province of York.
The Archbishop usually attends and takes part in special services at the cathedral throughout the year, including Easter and Christmas Day, the ordination of priests and the Consecration of bishops from the northern province.
As the mother church for the northern province, York Minster hosts a number of regional and national services, including the consecrations of bishops for this area.
