About Margaret Sentamu

Margaret Sentamu is sought out as a public speaker, preacher, leads retreats, quiet days and pilgrimages to Iona. Alongside the Archbishop, she enjoys offering hospitality and supporting and encouraging our brothers and sisters in the Anglican Communion.

Biography

Prior to ordination, Margaret Sentamu’s background has been in recruitment and consultancy. She worked for a number of years in the private, public and third sector which included a period as Senior Selection Secretary, overseeing the team responsible for the recruitment of future clergy for the Church of England.

She is currently a Lay Adjudicator for the Solicitors Regulatory Authority and a Lay Assessor for CIPFA member accountants who breach the Code of Conduct and bye-laws.  Until recently she was a Non-Executive Director of the Leeds & York Mental Health Trust; on the board of Traidcraft, which helps to fight poverty through fair trade, and President of Mildmay International (HIV/Aids).

She maintains an ongoing interest and support of a number of charities mainly to do with education, health and poverty and domestic abuse. She is married to the Archbishop of York and they have four grown-up children, and grandchildren.
