Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell, welcomed people who serve their churches and communities as Parish Safeguarding Officers (PSOs) across the north to Bishopthorpe Palace. It was an opportunity to thank them for all they do to help churches be safe spaces for everyone.

Volunteers from across the Northern Province of the Church of England shared Eucharist in the Chapel, led by Archbishop Stephen.

After lunch, the Archbishop gave a short address, which was followed by a panel discussion with Archbishop Stephen and members of the National Safeguarding Team, which enabled the PSOs to ask questions relevant to their role and the work they do in keeping our churches safe.

He said, “It was wonderful to welcome Parish Safeguarding Officers to Bishopthorpe, and to thank them for all they do in service of Christ and his Church. There are hundreds more like them who faithfully give of their time across our church communities, and I am so grateful for them as together we seek to be a church where all are welcome and all feel safe.”
