BSL and Makaton Versions of ‘The Pilgrim Way’ song now available

20/03/2026

British Sign Language (BSL) and Makaton video versions of the ‘The Pilgrim Way’ song have been released today.

Written by Nick and Becky Drake from Songs for School, ‘The Pilgrim Way’ invites children to reflect on life as a journey of faith, encouraging them to see themselves as part of a wider story of God’s people who have gone before them.

The new video resources are released during British Sign Language Week, organised by the British Deaf Association. These new resources aim to ensure more children can take part in singing and reflecting on the song’s message.

Nick and Becky Drake said:
“We want as many children as possible to be able to join in with ‘The Pilgrim Way’. Creating BSL and Makaton versions of the song is an important step in helping more schools and churches include everyone as they explore the idea of life as a pilgrimage, with Jesus walking beside them.”

To help schools and churches engage with The Pilgrim Way, a free resource pack is now available to download. The pack includes:

  • Lyric video
  • Singalong video
  • Backing track
  • Printable lyric sheet
  • Sheet music
  • BSL and Makaton videos

Schools and churches can download the full resource pack here.

The Pilgrim Way forms part of a wider collection of materials made available by Faith in the North. These include the collective worship resource Pilgrim Pathways, Pilgrim Explorer Cards, and a resource exploring the stories and significance of the Northern Saints titled Light from the Past, Hope for the Future.
