'Enough' - a poem reflecting & praying COP26

05/11/2021

Archbishop Stephen Cottrell has written a poem entitled 'Enough' reflecting on COP26 this week. He records this poem outside Iona Abbey, praying for peace in our world and that we may find a way of living more sustainably in the world.

Enough

Soon you won’t remember resurrection:

dying beams that coaxed new boughs to life

melt into the mulch of forest tracks.

Which way to go? Nature’s insurrection,

flying in the storms of climate strife,

strangle options, unable to turn back.

Getting late to conjure a correction:

crying over spilled milk now is rife;

and on the counters, a thousand cracks.

Enough. Enough is all to hope for.

Enough. Rise up. Do not relax.
