Nick & Becky Drake, the creative duo behind Songs for School, are delighted to announce an original song inspired by The Lord's Prayer. Designed to be accessible and singable, this new resource aims to bring a timeless prayer into the hearts and voices of the next generation.
Titled The Lord’s Prayer, the song features a catchy melody and thoughtful lyrics that guide children through the prayer’s core themes of reverence, provision, forgiveness, and protection. The uplifting chorus emphasises its lasting significance:
"The Lord’s Prayer, still our prayer,
Through the years, everywhere!
Words to lead, words to guide,
Words that light up our lives."
Nick and Becky have focused on:
• Making the theology of the prayer accessible and engaging for children while staying true to its meaning.
• Ensuring the music flows naturally with the original text.
• Crafting a piece that’s fun and easy for young voices to sing.
This exciting resource is part of Faith in the North’s wider commitment to prayer, storytelling, and church planting. It ties in with Archbishop of York Stephen Cottrell’s plans to teach The Lord’s Prayer at events across the Northern Province of the Church of England during 2025. The hope is that this song will help schools, churches and families explore and celebrate The Lord's Prayer in a fresh and meaningful way through music.
From 28 March the song will be available to listen to via all streaming platforms.
It is hoped anyone and everyone will enjoy learning and singing The Lord’s Prayer. As well as a full music score there is a free backing track to sing along with. To help make the song as accessible as possible, Makaton and BSL video resources are also available to download.
