Official Opening Ceremony of Bluecoat Academy Primary

Students, staff and parents at Bluecoat Academy Primary are honoured and delighted to have their school officially opened and dedicated by The Most Reverend & Right Honourable Dr. John Sentamu, Archbishop of York on Thursday 29th June 2017.

This is the first Church of England Primary School to be opened in Nottingham City in many years and it began its life in temporary accommodation in January 2015.  Today we are celebrating Bluecoat Primary Academy’s new permanent buildings on Harvey Road.  The £5.7 million building, designed by Lungfish Architects, built by Wates Construction and funded by Nottingham City Council is bright and spacious, providing modern accommodation for 420 students including a nursery for three and four year olds, and specialist provision for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

The opening ceremony will be attended by a range of our neighbours and friends including representatives from all of the partners involved in the planning and creation of the building, along with guests from Bluecoat Academies Trust, Nottingham City Council, The Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham.

At this prestigious event, Archbishop Sentamu will lead a dedication service, alongside Reverend John Hutchinson involving students from the Academy.  It will also include the presentation of a commemorative plaque; a tour of the building and an opportunity to meet the students and answer some of their questions.

Head of School, Sue-Ellen Shaw, said “The school encourages all children to ‘strive for life in all its fullness’ (John 10:10).  As the school grows over the next four years, we look forward to helping the children develop personally, academically and spiritually to achieve their full potential and to move on to the next stage of education as confident and aspirational individuals.”

Sian Hampton, Executive Principal of Bluecoat Academies Trust said “This is an exciting moment in the history of Bluecoat Academy, as we celebrate the growth of church education in the heart of the City of Nottingham.  We very much look forward to developing our work in this primary and working closely with other primaries as we increase our primary partners in Nottingham City and beyond.  We hope this opportunity to see what we do will encourage others to explore joining this growing and successful Multi Academy Trust.”

The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu said: “Education at its heart is about enabling all to flourish - it stretches the most able and guards and grows the most vulnerable. It is a great delight to be part of Bluecoat Academy Primary official opening day and I pray that every child who comes here will discover more of all that God has created them to be and to do.”
