School children, a community choir and supporters will be at Bishopthorpe Palace on the morning of Tuesday 29 September to cheer on Sir Kevin Sinfield and his team as they set off to run to the DIY Kitchens Stadium, home of Wakefield Trinity. The run is part of Sir Kevin’s final 7 in 7 Ultra marathon challenge, raising awareness and funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Community. He has raised more than £11m for MND causes so far.
The former professional rugby league footballer will finish Day 2 of the latest challenge at the home and offices of the Archbishop of York and then set off the next morning on Tuesday 29 September to run to Wakefield.
Archbishop Stephen said: “It is an honour to welcome Sir Kevin and his team to Bishopthorpe Palace. As they prepare to set off on Day 3, I will be pleased to bless Kevin and all those working alongside him, and to pray for strength and encouragement for the days ahead. This extraordinary challenge is raising vital awareness and support for people living with Motor Neurone Disease, and I hope that Kevin and his team will feel the encouragement of all those who come out to support them along the route. I wish them every blessing and safe running as they make their way through the rugby league communities across the North of England finishing his extraordinary challenge at the Grand Final in Manchester.”
Buffy Breakwell, from Heworth Community Choir, said: “It is wonderful to have the opportunity to show our support for such an incredible challenge as Sir Kevin sets off from Bishopthorpe Palace. As a community choir, we know how powerful music and coming together can be in lifting people’s spirits, and we hope our voices will help encourage everyone taking part as they set off on the next stage of their journey.”
