The Church of England has called for communities to come together in conversation and prayer as Brexit discussions reach a pivotal point.

Churches are encouraged to host informal café-style meetings  to bring together people of all standpoints and encourage open discussion.

Backed by the Archbishops of Canterbury and York, resources invite people to ‘get together and chat over a cup of tea and pray for our country and our future’.

The Archbishop of York has written two special prayers which are part of the resources available.  He has been encouraging people to join him in saying these at 6am, 12noon and 6pm each day. They read:

Please add these to your prayers:

Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive them that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.
