The Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell, has accepted an invitation to become President of the Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust (YHCT), the charity set up to maintain and repair places of worship across the region.

Archbishop Stephen said: “I am delighted to become President of the Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust. Yorkshire is blessed with over 2500 places of worship, from large Cathedrals through to tiny chapels. As Churches continue to be at the centre of supporting communities at this difficult time, the work of the Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust remains as vital as ever.

Tom Ramsden, Chairman of the YHCT said:  “We are so pleased to welcome Archbishop Stephen as President of the Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust. The Trust is keen to support Yorkshire’s churches and chapels to not only continue to offer a place for worship, but also to encourage imaginative use and encourage community involvement with these wonderful buildings. With the Archbishop’s support, we look forward to developing this role further.”

The Trust relies of the support of Friends and donors to help with their work. By becoming a Friend, or making a donation, you can help the YHCT fund urgent repairs to churches and to ensure they can continue to offer a welcoming place to worship.

Membership is £35 per year for an individual and Friends enjoy a wide range of benefits, including invites to a variety of church tours, lectures and social events.
