In June 2018 an independent scrutiny team reported on the Past Case Review (PCR) of 2007 and recommended a fresh review of files held by the 42 dioceses and 2 provinces of the Church of England.

Subsequently the PCR2 project was commissioned and independent reviewers were tasked with examining all relevant files held by the Northern Province/Archbishop of York.  The summary and recommendations of the PCR2 report are published today.

Archbishop Stephen Cottrell said, “The Church of England recognises that its approach to safeguarding needs to be regularly scrutinised as it continues to learn how to respond well to those who have been abused and to make the Church a safer place for all. I welcome the work undertaken as part of the Past Case Review 2 project and was pleased to participate in this.  I would like to thank the independent reviewers for their diligence.”

“I have read the report and welcome the eleven recommendations which are being addressed both at a national level and some by those working in local partnerships.”

“I would like to encourage any individual who needs support to reach out for help, whether from the Safe Spaces project, an independent support service or from other organisations.”
