Dr John Sentamu, will officially open the annual conference for the Independent Care Group (York and North Yorkshire) at York Racecourse on 7 October 2014. Andrea Sutcliffe, CQC Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care, will then bring delegates up to date with sweeping inspection changes coming in this autumn.

York Independent Care Group are delighted to announce the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu and Andrea Sutcliffe, CQC Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care will be key note speakers at its annual conference for social care workers.

Other key speakers at the annual conference will include David Pearson, President of the Association of Directors of Adult Social Care (ADASS); Richard Webb, North Yorkshire County Council Director of Health and Adult Services and Dr Paul Edmondson-Jones, City of York Council Deputy Chief Executive & Director of Health and Wellbeing.

There will also be a debate at the conference on the role of the media in delivering social care, chaired by BBC Look North presenter Harry Gration.

One of the themes for the conference will be pay. In recent months, the Archbishop of York has spoken on the topic of pay and has called for the National Minimum Wage to be replaced by the higher, Living Wage.

The Independent Care Group is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and Chair Mike Padgham says it is fitting that they have their best-ever conference to mark the milestone.

“We are absolutely delighted to have got such fantastic keynote speakers for the conference,” he said.

“The issue of the living wage is very topical at the moment, particularly with recent predictions from Bank of England governor Mark Carney suggesting the economic recovery should soon fuel wage increases.

“At the same time, social care providers are about to go through some huge changes in the way they are inspected and we are pleased to give them the opportunity to hear about those changes first hand, from Andrea Sutcliffe.

“The conference offers a fantastic opportunity for social care providers in the area to raise their concerns about the sector, face to face with the key people who shape social care.”

The conference has been called An Inspector Calls, as it is planned to prepare providers for “The challenges of delivering social care in the new world.”
