Archbishop Launches Online Advent Calendar
Advent Calendar 2012Friday 30th November 2012
The Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu, has announced that, following the high demand of previous years, he is to offer an online Advent Calendar on his website.Every day in December to the run up to Christmas, the Archbishop will write a daily reflection on his website – and this year he will also record four YouTube videos, one for each of the Sundays in Advent.
The YouTube videos will contain short messages based on four well-known Christmas Carols – O Come O Come Emmanuel, Hark The Herald Angels Sing, In The Bleak Midwinter and O Come All Ye Faithful.
The Advent Calendar can be viewed here – with a new door opening every day during December.
The Archbishop of York said:
“It’s important we get the good news of Christmas out as widely as possible.
“I’ve chosen this year to do four short messages on YouTube, one for each of the Sundays in Advent, using well-known Christmas Carols of a way of focussing on the Christmas story in a fresh way. Christmas Carols are a great way of reaching people who wouldn’t normally come to church – I love Christmas Carols. Hark The Herald Angels is my favourite, so that will definitely be in there!
“Join me in sharing the Advent journey together as we travel towards Christmas. Advent is a great time of anticipation and preparation for the big celebration that lies ahead.”
