Archbishop Pays Tribute To Hull Citywide Programme

The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu.

Tuesday 16th July 2013

The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, will today visit Hull to pay tribute to the work of Hull Citywide Graduate Teacher Programme (GTP).

Around 200 people are expected attend the event at The Guildhall, in Hull, this evening, which begins at 6.30pm.

Over 700 teachers have been trained by the programme in the last 10 years, and around 400 of these have stayed in Hull to teach in local schools.

This year 60 Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) have been trained by Hull Citywide, but due to restructuring of initial teacher training – and the closure of the graduate teacher programme nationally – the programme will no longer continue.

Dr Sentamu said:

“It is right that we pay tribute to all the fantastic work done by Hull Citywide GTP in training teachers locally. Their legacy will not only be developing some of the best and most enthusiastic people in the teaching profession, but also it will be seen in the growing achievements of our children in Hull who have benefited so much from this programme. Hull Citywide has had the community at its heart for the last 10 years and has aimed at developing an environment and vision where all can flourish. It is a tragedy that due to restructuring this great institution will be lost.”
