Acts435 Holiday Help

Thursday 27th August 2015

Acts 435, the Archbishop of York’s online giving charity, helped a grandma with her posted request for a short-break away with her grandchildren last week.

Donors with a holiday cottage in Scotland offered use of their cottage to assist the family who were referred to Acts 435 by the Citizens Advice Bureau.

Acts 435 works by putting those in need in touch with those who have the money to help meet their need via www.acts435.co.uk.

The person in need applies for help at their local church; the request is then checked, verified and posted online; a donor then chooses to give directly to the need using a secure payment system. Requests can only be made for up to £120, and may only be requested three times per year for any individual.

Jenny Herrera, Director of Acts 435 said: “The family were thrilled by such a kind offer to help them - it was the first holiday ever for their youngest grandchild whose mother is an alcoholic.  What an overwhelming response they had– not only was £100 given for the holiday but the cottage was offered too.  100% of what is donated to Acts goes directly to those in need.”

On their return Grandma Lesley, said: “It made such a difference. The children have come back all beaming. The couple who donated the cottage were lovely and even treated the girls to a morning’s pony trek.  They had never even touched a horse before.”

Acts 435 was launched as a national charity in 2010. This year, Acts 435 helped its 5,000th person and also reached the milestone of £500,000 going directly to those in need for specific help such as a washing machine, heating bills, emergency travel costs, interview clothes or food.
