Young Leaders Award Year in Review

Friday 16th December 2016

The Archbishop of York Youth Trust today published its 2016 Year in Review, celebrating the work of the Trust and the achievements of Young Leaders completing the Awards at Key Stage 2, 3 and 4.

The Young Leaders Awards are an active citizenship resource for schools and so far over 47,000 young people have been involved across the north of England.  The aim of the Awards is to encourage leadership in young people which will continue throughout their adult life.

The Archbishop of York said: “I am delighted that my Youth Trust’s programmes and activities in the North of England are inspiring the next generation. Over this past year, 7784 children and young people took part in 973 days, or 2.6 years’ worth of social action and volunteering work to achieve their Award.  The Year in the Review sets out some of their impressive projects and I want to congratulate all Young Leaders in their achievements.  Well done!”

Dan Finn, Director of the Youth Trust said: “Our mission is to help young people realise that their actions can benefit wider society.  We have reached more young people than ever before and continue to be amazed and inspired by all of their efforts, their community projects and their desire to make the world a better place.  And with more schools signing up to deliver the award in 2017 we are looking forward to even more young people changing the communities they live in.”

As well as reports on the Key Stage 2, 3 and 4 Awards activities, the Year in Review 2016 includes the trip to the Taize Community; 40 days of youth led action in Lent, the Heroes in our Schools week and of the Transpennine Fundraising Trek.
