Acts 435 is a fantastic initiative which puts people who are in need in touch with those who can help. It is a very simple idea but a very exciting one! I am proud that the Church is taking practical steps to help those facing practical difficulties.Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu
Acts 435 recognises that people want to give, often a little, sometimes more, to people with genuine need. 100% of what is donated to Acts 435 goes directly to those in need. Acts 435 was launched by the Archbishop of York in 2010 and has helped over 16,000 people with over £1,550,000 going directly to people in need. Over 300 churches and local charities from across the UK are involved.
Participating in Acts 435 – why churches should not delay
It is quick and simple for a church to get involved with Acts 435. Once local leadership has approved the scheme, the appointed advocate (church volunteer) can be trained and operational in less than a week. Given current government austerity measures, there is no better time to start. People are suffering from redundancies, isolation and despair up and down the country. The church has a duty, and an opportunity, to step up and show it’s serious about helping those in need.
How does Acts 435 work?
1. Person in need applies to the local church for help
2. Local church receives and verifies the request
3. Request for help is posted on the Acts 435 website
4. Donor chooses from a list of requests and makes a payment via a secure system online.

A Small Gift can make a Big Difference
S and her three children had NOTHING at all and were sleeping on the floor in their dressing gowns. The £120 donation bought a second hand suite and two second hand double beds AND bedding! She had second hand duvets and pillows given.
So they literally went from sitting and sleeping on the floor, to having somewhere to sit and sleep - and their happiness at such basic items we take for granted saw them nearly jumping to the ceiling!
C had a stroke and from being very active found herself extremely restricted. Through help and encouragement she is regaining her confidence and is not letting her problems hold her back. She tried a friend's scooter and felt she would be confident enough to have one. Through the help of Acts 435 donors, and help from the church we bought her one. Her life has been revolutionised. She is whizzing about shopping and visiting and is a joy to behold. Thank you so very much.
