Young Leaders Celebrated at the Cooperative Academy Leeds

The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu is to present 166 Young Leaders KS3 Awards at the Cooperative Academy, Leeds on Thursday 13 July.

Mrs Harinder Kaur, Social, Culture and Ethos Leader at the Co-operative Academy of Leeds said:  “We are very much looking forward to welcoming The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu to the Co-operative Academy of Leeds. We firmly believe that all young people have within them the potential to change our world for the better, and it is an absolute honour to welcome to our Academy a man who has championed this vision through his Youth Trust and throughout his life. Several of our students are currently taking part in the Young Leader Award, and they have found this experience both rewarding and enlightening”.

Elizabeth Howat, Strategic Lead for Secondary Awards at the Archbishop of York Youth Trust said: “I am really excited to hear more about how these young people have ‘been the change they want to see’ in their communities and who, or what, has inspired them to be Young Leaders, to take action and make a difference. The Archbishop was really impressed by the evidence of students’ collaboration with local charity CATCH Leeds, where they worked to transform a local community space, Ark, painting benches, treating logs and planting new shrubs and is looking forward to celebrating all their achievements.”

To date the Youth Trust have enrolled over 450 Primary and Secondary schools to the Young Leaders Awards, empowering some 50,000 young people to put leadership into action and make a difference in other people's lives through acts of service and community volunteering.
