Young Leaders Award

Young Leaders at West Heslerton Primary with Archbishop
The Young Leaders Award is a fully resourced leadership and character education programme, designed by the Archbishop of York Youth Trust, to be delivered by teaching staff within the classroom.

The Award has empowered over 80,000 pupils from 675 schools to learn and practice key leadership skills and character virtues and to transform their communities through social action. Available at KS1 to Post 16, the YLA has clear links to SMSC, British Values, PSHE, Character Education, Citizenship, RE and SIAMS.

Headteachers Conferences

The Archbishop of York Youth Trust holds regular conferences for schools interested in introducing the Young Leaders Award into their curriculum.

The conferences are a great opportunity to celebrate all that our young people can achieve and to hear from key speakers, who will help those attending to consider some of the latest information around character education and the effect of social action and volunteering on young people’s lives and the lives of their local communities. Hearing from teachers and pupils who have experienced the Young Leaders Award for themselves is always encouraging but also demonstrates how the Awards are delivered in particular settings.

I commend the Awards to school leaders because of the difference this makes to empower young people to make long-lasting changes.

Archbishop John Sentamu

The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu was the keynote speaker at the February 2017 conference held at Bishopthorpe Palace. He spoke about the success of the Young Leaders Award so far and how important it is to raise well rounded young people who have vital roles to play in our society.

Please visit the Youth Trust website for more information about these conferences or email [email protected].
